Accent on CLEARS. There is a separate scam where "international" people will buy your item, knowing it takes 2-3 WEEKS for an international cashier's check to clear. By the time your bank finds out the cashier's check was stolen/fake, it's too late. Be especially cautious if they send you a cashier's check for more than the selling price and ask you to refund the difference.
For the original question, even with Paypal you can get screwed. Don't do it.
