Look up Radial Pull.

The tires normally wear to fit them selves to the car and the road. The natural road crown on the road causes the tire to develope its own wear pattern. If you swap a tire side-to-side, you will create what is known as Radial Pull. Your stearing wheel will be off center a little and it will have an un-natural pull to one side. I wouldn't do it. This is coming from someone that has done alignments for over 20 yrs.
