He is pretty big - but he's declawed, and they were actually only playing!
I also have a 16 yr old persian. He just ignores all the other animals.
On the topic of Newfies.... They are generally thought of as gentle giants - which, in my experience is true for the most part (I've had 3). BUT, we had one who was tormented through the fence by the neighbor boy, and developed a strong dislike for little boys. Then one day, a little boy tried a stare-down with him. The boy was warned by my stepdad not to do that - explained that dogs consider that a challenge, that Sterling didn't like boys in general, etc.... The kid kept it up and ended up being attacked, no notice - not even a warning growl - by a 230 lb dog. MY family had to suffer the pain of having to put down a beloved pet because some kid wouldn't listen. but we knew he was a lawsuit waiting to happen....:( so it had to be....
