Wrapped Injen long tube with Thermo Tec heat barrier

My Injen long tube was rubbing on my frame, an issue others have experienced.

I couldn't find a suitable item just laying around to protect it, so I decided to use Thermo Tec adhesive backed heat barrier wrap to protect it and perhaps slightly cool it at the same time.

I ordered a 12" x 12" piece of Thermo Tec wrap which came in the mail today.

The space down there is very tight, and it was impossible to get the whole 12" x 12" piece of wrap around the tube in that area, so I first cut the wrap in half. After realizing it was still going to be a huge pain to get the wrap in place, I cut another piece off to put only on the side of the tube that can contact the frame.

I then used the rest of the wrap on other areas of the tube. It wasn't nearly enough wrap to do the whole tube, but I figure some is better than none.

The funny thing is that when I couldn't fit the Thermo Tec around the tube initially I decided to give it another try and was able to twist the rubber elbow around the throttle bottle so that there was an inch of space between the tube and the frame. For some reason I couldn't get the same result last week, or I wouldn't have needed to order the wrap. I figured I might as well use the wrap for any slight reduction in temperature as well as to protect it in case it somehow adjusts itself and rubs on the frame again.

Here are some pictures, sorry they probably aren't very good, they're from my ipod with poor lighting conditions:

If I had to do it over again with the intake, I would have wrapped the whole thing in thermo tec wrap before ever putting in on the car. I know it doesn't look very good with all the wrinkles, but if I could have cut it appropriately and with plenty of space to work (with it off the car) then I think it would have come out looking pretty nice, and doing the whole tube would obviously enhance whatever slight improvement there is by doing it.

I'd probably order 5 square feet of it to make sure I got the whole tube and had some extra for scrap.
