I added the gauges to mine, mostly because of looks and I do glance at the oil pressure once in a while. As far as storage goes, I don't leave anything that can become a high velocity projectile laying around in the car. Same reason I'd never put a license plate in the front window. Huge flying razor blade, in an accident.
