I dropped my car off at the dealership this morning and they are going to keep it to open up the differential and see what they can find. I did call customer service, so I do have a file # assigned to me now (Jeff - thanks for the info on this). I will say that I am happy that an attempt is being made to find root cause of the problem....however, I'm also a bit nervous that if the differential is not put back together correctly that I will have other new noises...time will tell. I will update again when I get the car back. In the meantime I'll enjoy my Silverado rental

That's what I've been saying ... My problem seems to be more of a ABS problem. It sounds like metal on metal when backing up and I can feel it slightly in the brake pedal. Doesn't do it all the time, so trying to reproduce it for the dealer has become futile. At least they have a record of it, if they were to ever find a fix.
