I came across some stuff on Marboro Motor Raceway tonight. Apparently it was a SCCA track operated in the 50's and 60's. Summit Point combined with poor management ran it out of business..however it was never redeveloped. The land sits abandoned, and overgrown today, visible from RT 301 south of the Rt4 intersection. I have driven past this hundreds of times and did not know it was there. From what I have read, the track actually has a pretty storied history. It is sad that even if someone came up with the money to buy the land, it would almost impossible to reopen it as a track. Apparently the land is bordered by dense swamp land, and a waste treatment facility, so it is essentially undevelopable except for a use like a racetrack. If I were stupid rich I would buy it and try and reopen it..haha. VIR was abandoned for decades and is now thriving..so it is possible.
