Many people buy based on percieved value, not whether something is made in America, like it or not.
For GM to make the turnaround they need to, it's going to be based less on how many plants they close, how many people they lay off, and how many models they cut out of production and more with what they do to add value, quality, and innovation to what they will still produce that quite honestly the Japs and Germans have been kicking our butt in for 20+ years.
Don't tell me for the prices GM is asking for the Camaro, without sacrificing on the quality or performance, that they couldn't have added more features that are standard in cars costing thousands less that aren't even considered performance cars.
Scott and I have had this discussion before, and I do not belive some of the little features that people are more accustom to with imports could not have been engineered into the Camaro without sacrificing the already great quality, performance, or increasing the price.

"fastball", you make a good point, but you need to look at the current reality. The "Japs and Germans" have fallen behind. Our quality and features are just as good if not better. Buick is the #1 quality brand. (Along with low volume Jag) GM offers more standard features in the Camaro than any competitor.
Most people are mis-informed on what they "percieve' quality and features to be. Do your research and don't believe what you read. Go to the dealers and look at the cars and drive them.
GM's issues have nothing to do with quality or features or the cars they are building. It has to do with legacy costs and the upheaval in the financial markets. If more so called "Americans" would take the time to look at what we have to offer, they would buy American cars. They just go out and buy a Prius because Consumer Reports says they should. Did you know if you drive mostly highway miles and about 10,000 miles a year and buy a Prius versus a new Cobalt LT that gets 37 mpg, it will take you 7 years to make up the money you spent in fuel savings? Did you know that Toyota and Honda don't offer Roadside Assistance with their warranty? What kind of a great feature is that?? Why don't they offer that?? Do you think it's because they would have to price their cars higher to offer that??? I kinda think so!
And then what do they do with the huge battery packs in the Prius when you junk it?? Isn't it kind of a "ecological nightmare" to think of where all those Prius batteries will be going when they wear out?? I mean they are only full of lead and mercury. That's no big deal huh?
Everybody drives what they drive because they like it and they can afford it. Don't assume that you know what other people like or want. I don't see Volkswagon having 14,000 presold orders on their latest car!!!
