I put mine (auto ) in neutal engage E brake until the car won't drift, then move to park. No tension at all on the parking pawl of the transmission then, at startup,hold break peddel, shift to N D or R, then release E brake, I don't think it really matters if you park up or downhill though it would make a bit more sense to me that any water would drain more completely parked uphill
