If you're seeing the hex cuts go flat your pad is WAY overloaded and if you're not cleaning it I guarantee you're not breaking the polishes down correctly which could very easily lead to the introduction of more damage than whats removed.

If you're going to break the detail up its a better plan to get a second set of pads. That way when one set is drying the other is ready to go.

Won't matter one bit how good your technique is - if the pads are caked up with days worth of dry polish you'll simply be wasting time working on the car.
