The problem is that those numbers are only "suggestions." Your car is only worth to the outside world, what someone is willing to pay for it. To you, it may be worth a lot more. Dealers know the game and they play it very well, which is why they are still in business.
Another problem you stated is that it's your only means of transportation. That means by the time you can get the other car, more miles will have added up.
If you want your car to hold value, unfortunately, you have to stop driving it. Even then, it will still depreciate in value.
