Hesh you are the first one that I see that mentions the cam phase restrictor for the VVT cam, it allows the use of a bigger cam without causing PTV clearance problems. You can also delete the AFM lifters. Which is a weak link in the engine. The cam and the TC are going to need to be spec'd at the same time, they need to match. Geoff Skinner at Engine Power Systems is supposed to have some really agressive lobes that he designed. A gear change will help you out the hole, but the suspension needs to be done to put the power to the ground. I would do suspension first, to see if you are really utilizing the power you have, then gears, then engine & torque converter. A cam with high LSA number (115-118) short duration, high lift may not need much stall.

I could see where a lot of overlap will lose you some boost but that will be on the lower end of the RPM (mostly on the street) at higher RPM's this will pretty much disappear. <------- Just an opinion I could be wrong about this.
