This is what GM should have been planing long before it came to this: close every plant that is producing vehicles sitting for three months, for three months. Which basically means about 85% of GM's current lineup.
If there's a 120 day back log, don't produce a single car for 90 days.
It's time for GM to start getting their inventory in line with their actual sales, not their inflated sales forcasts.
