This is what I mean:
Billet caps from JRE 169.00
Ring and pinion 600.00 "3.70, 3.90, 4.11, 4.33" (You may like a 2.92 gear but most want something other(lower) than a 3.27 or 3.45
Ring and pinion install kit 325.00
Wavetrac 1000.00
Axles 1400.00
Driveshaft 900.00 (Aluminum)
That is about 4400.00 assuming all work is performed by the buyer.
Labor to set up the ring and pinion varies from shop to shop. usually between 600 and 1000 dollars.

A 9" setup runs 4500 to 5000 depending on who's kit you run.
A 3rd member from Moser, already set up with a Wavetrac and nodular case is 2000.
Gear ratios availible:
2.91, 3.00, 3.25, 3.50, 3.70, 3.89, 4.11, 4.30 plus alot more up to 7.00 and depending on the manufacturer there are many ratios avilable inbetween.

Sell the stock Diff and subtract that amount from the total. Mine sold for 800.00 and I only had the ad up for a couple of days.

The built stock setup will probably live behind an automatic trans with 700rwhp. I wouldnt trust it much further than that. Behind a manual trans the money sunk into it would be wasted.

The 9" Will live behind either at a much higher power level. Has MANY more options in gearsets (gears are cheaper too).

If you are going to spend that kinda dough on a diff, why not spend a little more on a better Gearcase?

Sorry if this isnt what you want to hear.
I agree and would add the strange gear driven units we sale are in the $1500 price range. As you stated if you can afford to do the drivetrain at one time our 9 inch would be the way to go but just like our 8.8 kitts for the gto you have to change everything at once, some guys have to go piece by piece and this may be a great option for them.
