I have an SS on order there and had my salesman call me to take a look at Snook’s car on Friday because I would like to do something similar to mine when it comes in. I talked with the painter and the head of the body shop and they gave me a rough quote of $2000-$2500 as well.
I also asked about having go stripes all the way off the front or do the bumble bee stripes. They were very hesitant to sand down the clear coat on front fascia. They said it would cost at a minimum an additional $500 because they would most likely have to repaint the whole front fascia. They were also worried about the durability as well. They suggested a one stage on top of the current clear coat if I wanted to go on the front fascia.
I plan to get this quoted at other shops as well. I work right by Fischer Collision in Farmington Hills and they have been featured on Autoblog for some of their work.
I will keep you updated on other quotes.

Yes exactly - Lou LaRiche.
Yea, $2000-$2500 is very expensive for this. He did say they went under the base coat so that you couldn't "feel" the stripe - which is more work. He said it'd be half that price to just paint over top of the clearcoat - but then you would feel the edges and what not - honestly - might just stick with Vinyl in that case...
I'm waiting to see what my dealership can do for me....
Also yea, I wouldn't do the front bumper - repainting always weakens the paint and leaves it more vulnerable to chipping... (or almost always).
