But yeah, it was the Pontiacs built between the late '50s and early '70s that made the brand. It's been all downhill since.
The demographic that bought Pontiacs back then can find virtually nothing in a GM showroom today. The G8 fits, but GM destroyed the brand to the point that too many of the folks looking for cars like that wouldn't want to be seen in a Pontiac.
