I don't know how it works at your credit union but at mine, if you take out a loan to buy a car, the title is put into the name of the credit union and they keep it. When the loan is paid off, they turn over and transfer the title into whoever's name was on the loan.

As for insurance, the dealer does not care whose name the insurance goes under as long as it is covered. It is your insurance company that cares whose name it is under. The only way to find out for sure is call them to find out. No one on this board can answer that for you.
