Do you think that GM would issue a recall if a lot of the 6.2 engines are burning oil?
Never. The issue I see when tearing these down is the rings never properly seating since syn is used from the factory. We break all in with a good conventional. The second problem is they are driven easy during the breakin period....the motor needs to be driven hard & fast to seat the rings properly and then the break-in oil changed out for full syn after app 100 miles or less.
What do you think it would take for GM to rebuild or put in a new engine that is burning oil?
They may re-ring after a documented oil consumption test is completed...
Would a new Camaro thats burning oil pass a CA smog check?
The cats should burn most if not all the hydrocarbons so I expect yes, but am not 100% sure.
Where do you think the oil goes?
Is burned. Most due to the useage past the rings but a good amount through the PCV system. You may have a faulty baffel/orfice in the valley cover allowing excess oil drawn into the intake aircharge. A GOOD (not a poor functioning) oil separating catchcan will catch it before ingestion and save fuel & prolong engine life.
Below are pictures of what I am refering to:
and what this does to your pistons:
Your not alone, this is a problem with most newer cars & light trucks...not just GM.
Are there many people out there that the engines are burning oil?
Lots, but to variying degrees and plenty that dont use it.
Hope to hear from you guys soon
