I live out in the sticks as well and see deer all over the place, in fact my wife hit a deer in my Avalanche and caused $3000 in damage. Just about a month ago I was behind a Ford Ranger going about 60 and in the same exact spot where my wife hit the deer, another one jumped out in front of the Ranger and he hit it, it took out the front corner of his truck but it was still fixable. I stopped and made sure he was ok and both of us agreed that if he wasn't in front of me then I would have taken a serious hit in the Camaro.
Now I have learned that it is not always good to be the lead car, in the mornings when I am heading to work I make it a habit to just stay behind another car and give him enough room for an emergency stop, I use the car in front of me as a buffer zone so to say.
It is not a foolproof way to avoid deer but it does help.
