nitrous kit.....~$800 for a simple kit
Tires............~$800
Cam kit........~$800
Gears...........~$800
Headers.......~$1000-1500 depends on what you get
install of all that and tune at least $1000
so you will at least spend $5500

I agree with you, you will probably be able to build a camaro for 40k and go faster than 9s but it will be hard to make it reliable unless you do it right. 15k drivetrain (trans/diff/clutch/etc), 5k susp mods, 10+k engine, 10k blower and all accessories (Turbo will cost more!), 2k wheels and tires. you will need another 3+k for install/tuning/etc another 2-3k for a cage. thats about ~45k. you can make it cheaper with nitrous but I doubt you will run faster than 9s... and you will need a BIG shot haha...
will you be able to run 9s with 40k YES. but 8s??? its goin to be hard but possible.

The Lingenfelter car is right at 8.99's and that's an all-out drag car that makes over 1250 hp, so I'm thinking anything in the mid 9's is MAYBE attainable..maybe. Every second you try to gain, gets exponentially more expensive. And noone's driving that Lingenfelter car to a cruise, and those guys have DEEP pockets. Guarantee you they have well over the 6 figure mark in that car, and they get to write it all off, do their own labor and have their own machine shop. That's just not reality. Each of us have to pay for their R&D costs when buying from them...especially Garth. ( couldn't resist that one, since he's our resident Lingenfelter "representative")
Speaking of which, I just checked their website. Their 800hp TT package is $67,000 if I include the clutch. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I can personally assemble and build an 800 hp Camaro for half that, and I will put in the 9" rear end with that, which is NOT included in their 67K price...and you'd be pretty stupid to run that combo without a rear-end. I wouldn't warranty it for 3 years, but I'd get it to "run the number". And again, that would be me doing it and FOR me, so no labor costs, just time and wrench throwing! lol
Did Dirty Harry ever get a run in??? Just curious, since that was a big build.
Pretty sure I don't want to spend that kind of money on my car though. If I keep my car, I will add some more power, but I'm not chasing a number.
Wow...$67,000!! That's my GTR right there...'nuf said!
