This issue comes up every time a new car that is tied to a legacy or performance comes out. Often times it ends up hurting the sales of the car for the first few months. In the case of the Challenger people were paying 20k over MSRP in some cases. Within a few months prices were below MSRP. Today you can buy Challengers all day well below MSRP. The dealers just hurt themselves because even though they make a killing in the short term they will hurt their long term sales. When the 2004 GTO first came out the greedy dealers were getting 10, 15, 20 k over MSRP and within 8 months GM had to create a huge rebate to move the cars that sat on the lot for months. In Jan 2005 I bought a GTO that sat on the lot for 6 months for 8k under MSRP after all the rebates and discounts.
