Assumptions are when one fills in their gaps of knowlege to formulate a plan of action or at least that's one way it can be done. Pre-orders mean that you get first dibs on the product. That is the definition. There is no assumptions factored into that. The argument that people were making assumptions is like saying "This car here is RED." When the reality is the car is not red at all but BLUE. Its a miscommunication of facts either intentionally or unintentionally.

If your going to call it a preorder program then you build the preorders first, its really that simple. If you want to build the preorders over a defined period of time (2 quarters) and build sold cars also during that time period you should be more up front about it before people start plunking down deposits. I totally get that GM for a given month due to constraints might not have all the right combination of materials to match up with preorders and they would need to fill in the rest of the cars being built with sold cars. Although to be honest I would expect that to happen more towards the later portion of the preorder build cycle due to one having more options as you built the first half of the preorders. In any regards it appears that GM was thinking from the beginning that they are only going to build maybe a 50/50 mix per month of preorders/otherorders.

Everyone of course wants their cars as soon as possible but I think most of us are smart enough to understand that they arent going to be able to get them all built first. The problem is using a preorder program to generate sales when in fact you are doing something totally different from a preorder program.

For you guys who think its awesome that someone who ordered 6 months after you can get a car before you did. Cool. Glad you are ok with that. Sounds like your pretty happy campers and I'm really happy for you. But dont try to tell me or others like me that we are idiots for thinking the way we do.
