12k Miles, decided to change the oil to Mobil 1 Extended performance, put on the more expensive filter and noticed a leak. Checked the bar code number from where the leak was coming from and took it to the dealer. They confirmed the leak was from the Oil cooler and told me no need for a rental, drive it to work the next day wait for the part.
I paused and stated "are you sure I can't get a rental, and that this is ok to drive in?" The leak at that point wasn't too bad. Mech states yeah, no problem your oil level is fine.
Next day, drove to work, cars behind me screaming at the oil spraying their car. Get to work and there is oil all over the bumper, undercarriage, just burning up. Take the car back the next day, they look at it and state "What happened?" As if I needed to remind them of the oil leak.
They take the car in, change the part, put in a lesser grade filter and oil, cleaned my car (which I told them not to do unless they washed by hand and with microfiber only by their third party detailer) End up scratching the paint on the bumper trying to clean off the burnt up oil. Scratch my twice replaced stripes, and the oil that I had left from my oil change that I asked them to use if they were going to reuse my original oil from the change, got thrown on my backseat. Turns out it wasn't sealed tightly enough and leaked all over the backseat.
So yeah, my oil leak tragedy.
