With proud excitement I was asked to help my ten year old grandson build his 2012 Boy Scout of America Pinewood Derby Car. This was my first attempt and I wanted the car to qualify without a hitch and be extra special for him somehow, also because my grandson and I share a mutual love for Chevrolets. I got to scouting around for ideas and the thought came to me to incorporate the Chevrolet 100th Anniversary Pin into the design. TY again Becky for the lucky charm. Using it as a weight was the prefect way to really spruce up the car and get the car up to the maximum allowable derby rule entry weight of 5 oz.
Anywho's.............The day progressed in fine fashion and my grandson won all four of his heat races, finishing the day with a very respectful overall second place finish among the 16 other entrants. Whats amazing too is his four race total time today was only bettered by the top finisher by a mere .004 of a second. He's pleased and so am I. The results today earned him a invitation along with the 1st & 3rd place finishers to the compete next in the BSA Pinewood Regionals in May........He's really excited and so is his Pawpaw.
We'll be tweaking the car for more speed in the meanwhile and polishing up the beatiful pin, which now has been permanently attached to the car........ Updates in May!
