Honestly when I first started driving manual trannies I would dump the clutch on a hill, spin tires and get looked at stupid lol. (beats rolling backwards into another car).

Best advice I give anyone driving a manual is find a flat spot (driveway, deserted parking lot, etc.) put the car in first gear, take foot off the gas, and release the clutch slowly until you feel the car start to move. repeat that a couple times until you get a feel for when the clutch engages / disengages.

once you know where your foot should be on the pedal start doing take offs and stops for a while.

then go find a seldomly driven road with a steep hill and try and try again until you can take off with minimal "Roll".
