Seriously bro, even at 18 I know I'm not nearly as experienced as ALOT of people, and that's after a driver improvement class and an advanced driving course. The "age thing" isn't stupid; what's stupid is these 16 year olds getting 426 hp V8s and thinking they're the best drivers in the world. What's stupid are 16 year olds that cause accidents and then realize they're shitty drivers. Kids suck at driving, get over it.

I never got in an accident, and only got 1 speeding ticket (going 70 in a 65 zone on the freeway

). I drove a V8 powered 1970 Cutlass with crappy tires and no safety equipment, driving aids, electronic nannies, etc. It was me and the machine. So yes, I was a somewhat skilled driver; careful and responsible too. Still, despite all that, I look back on that now years later and realized how inexperienced I was, and really I was just lucky that something truly scary wasn't thrown my way. Since then I've had a number of close calls (caused by stupid drivers) that I only made it through unharmed due to the experience of years and years and years of driving. Skill only takes you so far. There comes a point where you encounter something they didn't teach you in drivers ed, and you have to know immediately, without thought or hesitation, how you and your car have to work together to make it. You have about .01 seconds to do that. Wait until you're older, and as long as you're honest with yourself, you'll look back and realize how dangerous and amateur you were back then, despite all your skill. I know that again years from now I'll still look back to the age I am now and realize I wasn't that good, comparatively. Some things only come with experience.
