I agree with you...the '96 and '97 SS hoods where very straight forward the air went into the scoop and the airbox was located on top of the engine block, so the passage of the air through the scoop to the airbox was a clear shot.

In the '98-02s it was different. The air went in and was re-routed to the front of the engine where the airbox/intake is. (I was looking for a picture of the underside of the 02 SS hood...if anyone wants to post a picture...feel free)

My point of bringing this up...is that if it was something that GM really wants to do, using the hood latch mechanism or the radiator wouldn't be their reasoning. Some people could argue that the scoops on the 4th Gen SS are located further back on the hood which is what makes the difference, and I would agree...but could air technically enter through the front scoop and be directed downward (or whatever direction) toward the intake? Since none of us (aside from the usual suspects...CAMERO!!!) know what the actual setup of the engine bay will be, I know it would really be hard to comment on. I'm just tossing ideas out there

(wow it took me a long time to write that post...look at aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the stuff that's been said since)
