The original question is about Horse Power. Not Torque, and it was also not about which is faster.
Lets not turn this into another V6 versus V8 pissing match...which is probably where it will go.
To the OP...yes today's V6 makes more HP than a good portion of the past V8s, in fact it dwarfs the HP output of some of them. But remember there is much more to a car than HP....but talking strictly HP output and nothing else...it does quite well.
