The 3.6 VVT DI is going to make the base Camaro an EXCELLENT entry level coupe. That engine is world class, and it will make the car appealing to a very broad range of customers. More than just us Camaro fanatics. People who might otherwise look at a Nissan Altima 3.5 coupe or Honda Accord EX V6 coupe, both of which are available with manual transmissions BTW, might actually consider the Camaro. Which, with all due respect Fbodfather, was a short comming of prior F-body generations. If you didn't have a V8 under the hood, you had a rather anemic car with the slight possible exception of the 4th gens that were 3800 equipped.
Now, even the V6 will perform on par or better with other cars in it's price range and class.
This is key, because as much as we all love the big V8s, V6s sell the cars and make the money for GM. And if you want the Camaro to be around for a while, you want the V6s to sell. It's like golf: you drive for show, but you putt for dough.
