Ding, ding! I'd have to say close enough for the win! Banana is the magic word. It's a Banana Slug. Said to be the second largest slug species in the world. Slugs irritate me at home, but I saw this one at work, so it didn't bother me. A couple days ago I tossed it onto a little "island" in our parking lot to keep it from getting squished. I've kind of been watching for it, and today it came back. I was able to get the pictures I couldn't get the other day, then I tossed it back onto the island. I've read that there have been 23 species of slugs described on the Olympic Peninsula. Doesn't surprise me. I also read that they can reach up to 10 inches in length. I've seen some close, but I don't think they were quite that long. They can be dangerous if you step on them, worse than their namesake, because they are so slippery. If you grab one, as I have while weeding, good luck getting that mucous off! I've scrubbed with a hard bristled brush and hot soapy water to no avail. They mess up your windows, and if they get in the house, there's no difficulty seeing where they've been. And don't get me started on how fast a slug that size can chew all your flowers to the ground!
