Shop around. You will find LARGE differences in the rates. The accident will count if a claim was filed with the current company, regardless of fault. Most states are "no fault" It is just how they look at it. I have been hit 3 times in the last five years, luckily nothing serious but in every case I filed a claim with drivers insurance company who hit me. None of accidents show up under me.
You also may want to check into other policies, life, renters, homeowners if you plan on buying one. Bundling them can help reduce your rates substantially.
