Because we used to be part of the British Empire. Thats why we use UK gallons instead of US gallons. Its also why we have things like a Prime Minister instead of a President and spell colour with a 'u'. And yes, we have our own federal fuel economy testing procedures.

OK..then it still makes zero sense.
MPG has no use as data in Canada. The only reason to add MPG data is for the U.S.A. So what sense does it make to use Imperial Gallons when it means nothing to anybody?...seems like someone dropped the ball there.
