not to mention that putting them on either side of the license plate would be detrimental to GM's overseas sales as UK (and other countries) license plates are wider than those in the US. and they would cover the reverse lights.

Ive thought about this before, maybe do an aftermarket rear diffuser with mounts for the reverse lights and something to pop into the stock location
