* Grimmace - You do realize that it's the marketing team that decided upon model-year assignments, that they are rather ARBITRARY (2013 is 6 1/2 months away), and that these two vehicles are more-or-less hitting the streets concurrently, within a couple months of each other... They are contemporaries, period, trying to paddle-back to the 2012 GT500 just makes you look horribly desperate.
* Sure, a pulley-tune may grab you an extra 50hp at the rear wheels, but that certainly isn't going to net you the EXTRA 8MPH you need in trap-speed just to hold-check. Even with a pulley-tune mod, you're still underpowered and overweight compared to the 2013 GT500.
* Not to mention that they can do the same pulley/tune mod just as easily, just as cheaply.
* The fact that the ZL1 is a bit cheaper is a valid point, I'll grant you that, which allows you to use saved-cash towards mods. But that point only goes so far, because you never get your money back on mods, so when you look at the end-game, buying a slightly cheaper car and then modding the heck out of it is not an apples/apples $$ comparison. The modded car will be worth far less when it changes hands.
Lastly, most earlier GT500's on the road are at MINIMUM pulleyed/tuned and more than ready to walk off from a stock ZL1 in a friendly highway pull. So if you're going to worry about street-cred, better start turning wrenches... My 2011 GT500 with TVS/elbow/TB upgrades dyno'd at 660hp to the rear wheels, through it's 100% stock exhaust. It's a silly silly goose!...
In any case, I'm driving my '67 Corvette today, I'm no bow-tie hater by any means. This pony car war IS INDEED great for both marques, and the rivalry is damn fun...
Looking forward to seeing these two cars on a good road course, release the hounds!!
