CAFE got started before GW was the next big thing in science.

I hope they slightly relax some regulations on Diesels to make it easier to certify them. Diesels are IMHO better technology then hybrids. Diesels are well understood and diesel should be cheaper then gas if America geared up for diesel production. I've driven in the new Jetta TDI and I'd take that over a Prius any day of the week. My Dad's 3500 Dodge with the 5.9 Cummins that has been chipped with a 5inch exhaust puts out 390 hp and 788lbs of torque in the economy-towing mode while still averaging 17-19mpg (4mode Edge Chip).

So anyway- y'all knew this was coming (if you didn't, you've been smokin' the chronic). So make the best of it.
