As far as filling up the tank as soon as you get off the lot, you should know that a full tank of gas is always included in the price you pay for the car. Look at the window sticker. A full tank of gas is actually listed as a standard feature. So you should never drive off the lot with anything less than a full tank.
I've heard about 400ish miles, so pretty much what Dragon said. The advice I've heard said to drive like you normally would, just at 80%. So just drive your normal commute, but don't pound on the thing. It is generally not a good idea (for many reasons) to do a burnout driving it off the lot. And yes, while driving your normal routes during the break-in period, try to vary the RPM more than you normally would. And to echo Dragon, get the oil changed at the end of the break-in period, then follow the manufacturer's schedule after that (GM includes computers that tell you when to change based on driving conditions, not mileage.)
