The salesmen - excuse me, product consultants - at my local dealer are trained to know a little bit about every car they've got, but their knowledge on any one car is never very deep. I guess if you walk into a dealer thinking "I'd like to get a car with 4 doors that can handle snow," that's the kind of salesman you want. Personally, after the second time they told me I probably know more about the car than they do, it stopped being flattering and started being disconcerting.
