The crash test standards you mention wont have to be met until the 2013 MY/2012 CY, which likely means this generation of Mustang will never have to meet those standards or, if they know they will be producing this car through the 2012 model year, it almost certainly was designed to meet them already.

Seriously, the whole safety issue weight gain slant on this is, IMHO, something a few insiders lurking around came up with to explain away the Camaro's weight and the buying public...well....bought it. It has been blown out of proportion.

They do not meet the 2012 regs. The Roof crush test went up from 1.5 to 3x's the vehicles unloaded weight. Same goes for the door reinforcments. They are being strengthened to take harder impacts. Currently The Mustang is up to the 2010 standards, but there are tougher standards coming. All of them have to be in place by 2012.

So all I am saying is that in the future, the mustang will have to get heavier, while the Camaro will not.

That`s all I really have to say about that though.

P.S.: I am suprised this thread hasn`t resorted to name calling yet like most of these other mustang threads have in the last little while.

Maybe we are all starting to get along
