Studded tires aren't allowed in many places that get snow because they really tear up the road when it is dry. I grew up in Colorado driving RWD including muscle cars. Get FOUR snow tires. The front ones will let you steer and help stop. Also, be VERY light on the gas. You can also keep a bag of kitty litter in the trunk to pour under the rear tires for more traction if you get stuck. They make metal grids to put under the tires, but I've seen those thrown out behind the car and damage other cars. Like others have said, the best option is a second FWD beater.
