I guess I didn't make myself particularly clear. Innovation is required, and if new methods of doing things aren't tried then things will never get better. When I talk about new ideas being more prone to failure, its in referance to tried and true methods vs new cutting edge methods. Im not saying we should move backwards.
The lighbulb was mentioned as an example, however it took countless attempts to get a bulb to burn more than a few hours, that is what Edison invented, a long lasting light. Someone else invented the actual electric light. Until Edison came along new technology was less reliable than the existing tech, oil lamps. Over time thorugh refinement we have bulbs lasting thousands upon thousands of hours.
I'm going to school for engineering and so I am all for innovation and change. But I am against using technology simply for technologys sake, it needs to clearly be better for me to like it. As I said, so long as an engine gives me what I want I'm happy and I don't care what the engine does to give me those things. Is that better?
