Today I got to go to a Milwaukee Dealership to pick up ONE of our ride and drive Camaro's....A Victory Red 2SS/RS Automatic, with polished wheels and black rally stripes (not installed yet...) AND a Victory red engine cover....
My FIRST DRIVE in the V8. I always hoped this day would come sooner, but today was THAT day!
I can't explain the feeling of driving this car on the highway. All eyes are on the car. GAWK GAWK GAWK! Then to the gas station...I needed more gas! (not much in there from the factory!) I Stepped on the gas when the light turned green - just a LITTLE MORE touchy than my V6 Malibu! This car wants to be UNLEASHED to EAT MUSTANGS! The exhaust in nice - but I would opt for a little more attention...If you're going to turn heads, why not TWIST THEM OFF?????
Stopped at the gas station...I had Mercedes, a BMW, and a young kid in a Subaru pull up and ask about the car...They weren't getting gas, but they saw the car at the station so they came in!
Off to my Sons High School to pick him up. The girls didn't notice the car, but every male teenager did! My son came running out yelling "SWEET!" and a few of his friends....They all had to check the car out...ok, off we go - to take him home and then over to the grade school to pick up my 6th grade son.....I stand by the car so he see's me - guessing he'd never think to look for a CAMARO.....another six grader walks about 20 feet in front of the car...He glances, stops, and slowly turns for another look....."Mister, is THAT the NEW CAMARO????" I say why yes it is! He says "you sure are a lucky guy!" I told him it wasn't mine, and that I sell them.....but I said I still am a lucky guy, because I can drive a car like this AND a corvette when I can....He said COOL!
My youngest came out and said DAD, HOW DID YOU GET ANOTHER CAMARO???? Well son, I AM Camaro Scotty

and this one dad will be driving quite often! I drove it around to a few car buff friends...everyone loved the car.....
But, it IS my OFF day today. I knew as much as the owner of Newman Chevrolet likes what Camaro Scotty does for this car - he really wouldn't want him to keep it over night. So my oldest son rode back with me...as we were driving, it seemed like many of his friends were walking about town...They all stared and then yelled stuff when they noticed Ryan IN the car....I think he'll have lots of discussions tomorrow at school.
As for me, I turned 16 in a heartbeat. I am a changed person - I would have chose this day over sky diving or bungee jumping.....this was MY personal rush! The feel - I was the hand, the car was the glove. Crisp pedal, crisp steering...the leather smelled right (Ever sit in an Impala???)...I survived the so called "blind spots".....I was more worried about the "other guy" since they were the ones not watching the road! I wasn't worried about getting a ticket either - I NEVER seen so many people "race" to catch up to a car for a look!
Here's my final opinion. I read about people who "Couldn't wait" and bought something else. I can't tell you how much I think about what a mistake that really is...I'd personally hate to be locked into another car for a few years before I realized what a car the Camaro really is. Patience pays - trust me, it will!
Thanks AGAIN ( I know I said it a few times before - ) to all the Oshawa employee's....this IS a car I'd be proud to build - and you did a great job of being a part of the Camaro's return. Thanks to everyone at Chevy that brought this car back, and thanks to those "special" individuals who participated with feedback in the pre-production stages. I'm confident it brought idea's together that made a great car.
Tomorrow I'll have a few pics, although I know pics aren't as exciting as they were a few months ago....
The other neat thing I noticed is that because the PAINTED engine cover was ordered - it was shipped separate and had to be put on...the unpainted one gets taken off and you get it as a "Spare".
What a day.
