SS rear diff not locking

I was out the other day when I came across a nice open piece of "closed course" and decided to have a little fun with my 11' SS (M6) I wanted to do a standing burnout followed by a doughnut or two. My question is why this did not go to plan and is something wrong with the car or the driver? (it's never the driver, right?)

I started by disabling the electronic traction control and stabilitrack by holding the bottom down till both warning lights illuminated on the dash. I then held the brake while adding throttle and letting the clutch out. The right rear tire began to spin but the left stayed still even after rolling forward and attempting a doughnut. It almost felt as if the stability control was breaking one wheel to prevent yaw.

Just to see what would happen, I changed modes to Competitive mode and attempted another go. To my surprise, the car whipped right around with no issues accept for the "service stabilitrack" message on the center display that went off when the car was restarted just like after dyno runs.

Is fully off mode for traction control and stability control not fully off, is my limited slip rear end allowing a lot of slip and malfunctioning, or am I doing something completely wrong?

The fact that I couldn't find any other forum posts or threads on this has me worried. I don't know if this is the right place for this question so please fill free to move it to the proper place.
