That's the right way. Pry bar, long screwdriver. I've never bent the tb. It needs to be skinny enough to fit between the pulley and the tb. If the bar is to thick you'll catch the lip of the tb which is prob what's happening to you.
It can be done by yourself but another set of hands helps!

So get a skinny pry bar or screwdriver, go off the meaty part of TB, loosen the 15mm bolt on idler, gently pry towards passenger side, then tighten? I don't have to do anything to tensioner right? Thanks for your quick reposne, I'm having a bad hour with this!
