I will say this information came straight from our service manager, so I would say it is on pretty good authority. He said they have had a few SS models come in that couldn't get warranty engine replacements because of the K&N bulletin.
That's all I know so far.

That makes sense, vehicles have to be all original to be certified. The resulting 'bulletin talk' was probably just that, shop talk.
Several of us on here have or do work in the auto industry, like yourself and know that 'shop talk' can spread
