I have wondered about that too......and OEM's used to be required to support their car's part with genuine OEM parts for a longer time than they do now, might just be 7yrs, think it was 11 or more before Congress changed the rules. Aftermarket is not affected by this.
Anyways, and the thread before this went on forever, but if GM could have went through the normal "restructuring", they could have come out better than ever. GM still owes the USA, with the US part in that being us, the taxpayers more than $25billion, this isn't your dad's Chrysler bailout of 1978.
It may have been better for someone to buy the Chevy name and continued with just the moneymakers: Camaros, Vettes and Silverados, and maybe fleet sales of an SS Impala for cops. Ditto for Caddys and who knows, surprised someone hasn't tried to buy the Pontiac nameplate.
In any regards, even the Camaro5's aint rare, so parts will be available for a long time, especially the way all you nuts like to mod out!
