Look at the diagram posted above (BTW - thanks for the posting that). The cap is actually turned to the passenger side when you remove the engine cover so it can clear the cover. Remove the cover, and turn the cap to top center. There is a purple snap ring that keeps the cap secured. turn the cap a 1/4 turn and gently grab or pry the snap ring and pull it outward. Once removed the cap will simply twist off. The coolant level should be at the bottom of the neck where the cap goes.
Installation is reverse of the removal, but make sure the slots on the cap line up with the slots on the neck so the ends of the snap ring can be pressed back into place. Don't force the snap ring; it should just click back into place if the slots are lined up correctly. Once secured, turn the cap 1/4 turn back to the passenger side and install the engine cover. It sounds harder than it really is.
