the gt500 has been using the exact same shifter arrangement since it came out in 2007 (remote mount). though it's worlds better than the shifter arrangement on a 2005-2010 mustang GT, remote mount shifters can suffer in cars with a lot of torque. but in my opinion, the gt500 shifter is as good as a remote mount shifter can be.
production schedules have absolutely nothing to do with the shifter. i'm not sure what the problem was with this one. maybe it's an isolated incident like with that one review (one of the first comparos) where they had shifting issues in the zl1
