Dude sorry for your crash! I always leave room in front of me when I stop like that and keep my eye rearward until the guy behind me stops. This happened to me just last week leaving NYCity. I saw the guy behind me slammed the breaks late and I had just enough room in front to quicky hit the gas and then stop again and he only cushioned off me at maybe 5 MPH with ZERO damage to my CR-V or his Land Rover. He thanked me up and down because he saw hit was going to slam me then all the sudden I moved up about 150ft and bought his ass room, he was amazed.
But Wow, you must have a back problem from that one! The front of that van is trashed. Sadly, it looks as though the rear crumble zone activated so your frame must be screwed, but it saved you from some serious injury...........NICE GM!!
