Anybody with a trademark or copyright has to renew now and then. That would have to be done regardless of production date of the Z28, if ever.
The 1LE was never a year-after-year production car so a Z28 can be shoehorned in without much problem. For that matter, probably sales will dictate, but the ZL1 may be for a short few years...
