If it's rattling as he says it is at higher levels, my guess would be a blown door speaker.
One way to test it would be to try pushing music to one speaker at a time by changing your balance and fade settings to front left only, then front right only, so on and so forth. This has helped me in the past. I find that Texas heat really takes a toll on rotting out radio speakers unfortunately.
